It is with great concern that I note the attack on a lady in Golden Harvest Park during the early evening yesterday. My thoughts and prayers are with the victim, and I wish her a full and speedy recovery. Should she or her family require assistance in accessing trauma counselling or any other form of support, I will do everything I can to help connect them with the appropriate resources. This incident once again highlights the safety concerns that ActionSA has consistently raised regarding Golden Harvest Park. The current Ward Councillor has dismissed these concerns, describing them as isolated incidents and suggesting they are less serious because they did not occur near the surrounding homes. This lack of concern is deeply disturbing. An attack on any resident, anywhere within our ward, is one attack too many and cannot simply be dismissed. According to the information available, the victim was walking her dogs shortly after 6:00 pm when she was attacked from behind. The suspect demanded money, and when she said she had no cash on her, he allegedly assaulted her with a bottle. She bravely fought back, and the suspect fled towards the dam area. I urge all residents to remain vigilant. If possible, please avoid walking alone in the park and rather walk with a friend or in a group, particularly during the late afternoon and evening. ActionSA is committed to finding practical solutions to improve safety in our community. I will continue engaging with JMPD and the relevant stakeholders to push for increased law enforcement visibility, improved security measures, and meaningful action to restore the safety of Golden Harvest Park. The safety of our residents must always come first. We cannot continue accepting excuses while people are being attacked in a park that should be a safe space for families, walkers and cyclists.
