I've lived all over northern South Africa (Gauteng, Limpopo, and Mpumalanga). There were rough times, but it was always gunshots once a year or dodgy areas you can't go. These three years have been the worst I've ever experienced, though. Two attempted breakins. Stolen gate motor. Places like Shoprite are hangouts for drug dealers. Now gunshots once a week. It's getting quite rough around here.
